Needless to say, if you want to take perfect photos of your baby, have a good camera will certainly provide an advantage to get the perfect picture. I would even go so far as to say that a digital SLR camera to be the best use. That does not mean they do not get good pictures with a point and shoot – you can and you will – Compact cameras today, all come with a sophisticated feature set and generally have a vertical configuration.
Good lighting is the key to any good photograph, and professionals know how to do light work for them. Let me describe two extremes of the baby photo sessions. The first is when the grandfather tries to capture the moment only child by candlelight. He has his phone camera flash set to OFF and the baby is jumping around place. Oh and I forgot to mention grandfather suffers from shaky hands. So how would guess the picture?
In the second case, a professional photographer Mom is really for the baby with her study. He has a great background, there is no light coming through the windows and have multiple remote flashes with diffusers. His camera, the last top of the range Nikon or Canon DSLR is mounted on a tripod. Not only that, but Mom is holding the baby and is sitting. So how would guess the picture?
I'm sure the second photo is the image be more technically correct, but the pro is capable to capture that magical moment baby. I do not think he will, although it will be able to compensate for the natural environment and have some incredible photos that do not could get from that magical moment baby.
