I saw capitalism: a love story in a basement theater in downtown Manhattan, down at the base of Trump Towers. Upon leaving the theater and returned to street level, my surroundings and the message of the film clashed dramatically. After two hours of witnessing the evils of capitalism or, as Michael Moore says, "legal greed", I found myself looking for bright high-rise developer named richest in the country, housing the 1% who live on top of the pyramid ….

Most days I do not think much about it, but tonight the contrast is stark. I go into the subway and see those who belong to the bottom 1% headed for a miserable night on wooden benches, pulling their shopping carts over wire fence, their ragged blankets and pack a little tighter.

As someone working with homeless New Yorkers on a daily basis, I can put names to people who have been crushed by capitalism and its beautiful swept under carpet. Also the daily witness of the mad rush of those who have been caught in the rat race for more here in the capital of the capitalist world. I am not better, I also feel the force sometimes universal materialism, and the attractions of the pleasures of toxic city. I also susceptible to propaganda. But this movie made me think, and left me with a bunch of new questions. I guess that's the point of it.

One man quoted in the film, said Wall Street is a "holy place", and understand that capitalism, each person make as much money as possible, is given by God. Other voices in the movie called "evil capitalism". Who has right?

If materialistic greed is the main objective of Moore (and clearly is in this film), why so many people shun him? What afraid? Is "Socialism" a word many people in the film seemed to fear? Am I a socialist, if I can help the poor and share my lot with the private?

In my opinion, every thinking American should watch this movie and chew. Why? Very simply, because you prick consciousness. On one level, Moore's classic, tongue in cheek humor, irreverence (especially toward self-important people), the subtle exaggeration, and clever use the words of people to incriminate themselves. But generally blows, every point Moore makes is painfully true, and in this film than in the previous feel the heart of a man who has compassion for the oppressed.

Moore challenges more effective in this movie are aimed at those of us who say who are Christians. It is needles to those who claim to follow Jesus and yet advocate a system that is completely contrary to his example. Moore does not quote the following passage in James 5, in his film, but left the theater, came to mind:

Now listen, you rich, mourn and lament the misery that comes from you. His wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have wealth accumulated in recent days. Look! The wages they stopped paying the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against him. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. He fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not against you.

So strong was this warning in the same letter (James 2):

What good brothers mine if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him: "Go, I wish you well, keep warm and well fed, "but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? Similarly, faith, unless it is accompanied of an action, is dead.

Who taught us to love our neighbor as ourselves, and what it means? If everyone actually followed this command, What system we choose for ourselves and our children? Whether or not you like Michael Moore, you owe it to yourself to take the time to go see Capitalism: A Love Story.

Planning a trip to Manhattan and knows nothing?

We're trying to plan a trip to Manhattan in April. We have 3 children 12, 10 and 6 months. I almost I know nothing about New York, Ive never been. Wheres safe, cheapest place to stay outside of Manhattan? What is the fairy free and where it goes? Are there places to stay away from? Ive not heard to go to Central Park at night and there is no subway at night. We'll be there for a week. We must take a cart or a backpack baby carrier "wear" the baby on us? What about the taxis … you must have a seat? Any suggestions, advice or information on New York City very much appreciated! Thanks:) lol "open-book" Oops I meant "ferry"

If you come to New York with children be sure to get the magazine comes out weekly children Timeout NY. That lets you know all things happen for children and many of his posts are for Free things to do in New York. NY Timeout is for adults and children who can be bought at any kiosk. I'm not sure where to stay and tripadvisor.com try to do research there. Find a nearby supermarket to buy snacks for your children when you are away and also to eat in the room. The Staten Island Ferry is great do it late at night (after the afternoon peak) and if you sit on the right you can see the Statue of Liberty all lit up. Returning You can see the New York skyline. Make sure you buy a MetroCard weekly for each of you (except the baby) so you can travel on the subway and the bus without limit # Of times. PLEASE do not take the subway during rush hour, am or pm, it will be terrible for you and the people around you. I really think it should stay on the bus so you can see the city. China town (up the hill on the Canal) is unbelievable, is believed to be in China. Make sure you get a map of Manhattan buses if their com Laguardia out and also get a subway map (taken by the experience of 1 time). The odds are pretty good increase from 99.9% of their time in Manhattan. I say take a company instead of a stroller in New York is full of people. I'm on the subway at night all the time simply sitting in the middle of 2 seats (you will see a black and white board striped This allows the driver know you're in the station and its safe to open the doors). Do not go in Central Park at night. Go there this weekend on the day its glorious. Do not ride in taxis that drive crazy to remember that your goal is to make as much $ $ as they can during their shift. There are a million things to do in New York with children museums of several children. Go see the Stomp performance where the audience gets involved, I think that their children enjoy. If you can go to the zoo with the kids and Gardens Botanists' I think then the orchid show will continue. I can not think of any area that the tourists would not be going. What do you want do while you're here nothing special in mind? I'm sure he'll have a great time in NYC!
